The Green Ribbon Campaign and Mental Health Support Services in Cork

As the month long Green Ribbon Campaign to End Mental Health Stigma comes to a close at the end of May, we thought that it’s an appropriate time to highlight events, services and support initiatives that are working to promote positive mental health in Cork. Let’s take a look at mental health support services in Cork.

May 2018 has been a month of events running across Ireland to promote mental health awareness, with a mission to remove stigmas which can be a barrier to people seeking help. Launched at the beginning of May, this year’s Green Ribbon Campaign to End Mental Health Stigma was the 6th annual campaign.

Speaking at the Green Ribbon Campaign launch event, keynote speaker Sir Graham Thornicroft said, “Stigma has a toxic effect by preventing people seeking support. People put off seeing health professions, or don’t seek help at all, which in turn delays their recovery.” He continued, “Awareness campaigns aimed at reducing stigma among the general public have a positive effect on behaviours and attitudes and can help alleviate self-stigma also.”
